Chest Diseases Department of School of Medicine, Dicle University renders healthcare services by specialized physician staff with modern equipment for all health problems related with the lung diseases.
• Smoking addiction, diseases secondary to smoking and smoking cessation methods
• Diseases that involve the airways of the lungs such as COPD, bronchiectasis
• Chronic cough
• Allergic lung diseases such as asthma
• Lung cancers
• Pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs)
• Diseases of the pleura (membrane of the lungs)
o Mesothelioma (cancer of the membrane of the lung)
o Pleurisy (fluid collection in the pleura)
• Pulmonary vascular diseases
o Pulmonary embolism (clotting of the pulmonary vessels)
o Pulmonary hypertension
• Interstitial lung diseases
o Sarcoidosis
o Diseases destroying the lung tissue such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
Tuberculosis
In Sleep Disorders Unit, following conditions are diagnosed and treated.
o Simple snoring
o Sleep apnea syndrome (pause of breathing in sleep)
o Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (deteriorated oxygenation of blood in the overweight people).
For the patients who need to be followed up in the intensive care unit of Department of Chest Diseases at School of Medicine, Dicle University
o Intensive care (the patient is sedated and connected to the device to monitor relevant signs)
o Intermediate intensive care (the patient is not sedated and mechanically ventilated through the tubes inserted into the mouth or the nose).
Pulmonary Function Testing to monitor the functioning of lungs in the Pulmonary Function Laboratories;
o arterial blood gas analyses
o Spirometric tests,
o flow volume curve
o bronchial provocation test
o Reversibility test
o Lung volumes
o Diffusion capacity
o prick test (skin allergy test)
In the Interventional Pulmonology Unit, following procedures are carried out;
o Videobroncoscopy(airways are visualized and examined)
o EBUS (endobronchial ultrasonography) biopsy (this device allows biopsy through the thoracic cage without the need for surgery)
o Coil (helical wire) (a method that eliminates necessity of surgery in patients with COPD and emphysema)
o Valves (another method that eliminates the need for surgery in patients with COPD and emphysema).
In the pulmonary rehabilitation service of our hospital, the patients with respiratory failure, especially COPD, are rehabilitated. The bedridden incapacitated patients with lung diseases can deal with self-care needs and the need to other for the self-care is eliminated.
Chest Diseases Department of School of Medicine, Dicle University serves with a capacity of 50 beds, including 22 beds in the service, 6 in the tuberculosis unit, 8 in the intermediate intensive care unit, 10 in the intensive care unit, and 4 beds in the sleep disorders center. In addition, outpatients are admitted to two general outpatient clinics, one smoking cessation outpatient clinic, sleep pulmonary diseases outpatient clinic and the interstitial lung diseases outpatient clinic.
